Home Minister Amit Shah Sanctions ₹20 Crore For Nagaland’s Flood & Landslide Victims

Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved an advance release of ₹20 crore to Nagaland as the second instalment of the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year 2025–26, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The allocation aims to bolster relief and rehabilitation operations in the state following heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides triggered by this year’s south-west monsoon.

An official statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the funds would assist the Nagaland government in extending immediate support to affected communities.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, the Government of India stands shoulder to shoulder with State Governments during natural calamities and provides them all necessary support,” the statement added.

Support for Disaster-Affected States

The SDRF serves as the primary fund for state-level disaster response, helping governments deliver prompt relief in the aftermath of natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

The Central Government contributes a significant share to this fund annually.

For the ongoing financial year 2025–26, the Centre has released a total of ₹15,554 crore to 27 states under SDRF and ₹2,267.44 crore to 15 states under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

These allocations are part of the Centre’s broader effort to strengthen state-level disaster resilience and ensure timely assistance.

In addition, the Central Government disbursed ₹4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states and ₹372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states to support long-term disaster risk reduction and preparedness initiatives.

Nationwide Relief Operations

The Central Government has also provided extensive logistical and operational assistance to states affected by natural disasters.

The support includes deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Army personnel, and Indian Air Force aircraft for evacuation and relief missions.

During the 2025 monsoon season, as many as 199 NDRF teams were deployed across 30 states and Union Territories — marking one of the largest coordinated disaster response efforts in recent years.

These teams undertook rescue operations, distributed essential supplies, and assisted in rehabilitation efforts in flood- and landslide-affected regions.

Earlier this year, Home Minister Amit Shah had approved an advance release of ₹1,950.80 crore as the second instalment of the Central share of SDRF to Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Of this, ₹384.40 crore was sanctioned for Karnataka and ₹1,566.40 crore for Maharashtra to support relief efforts for people affected by severe monsoon floods.

The government’s proactive financial and operational support demonstrates its commitment to ensuring timely assistance during disasters.

The latest allocation to Nagaland underscores the Centre’s continued focus on improving disaster preparedness and providing swift relief to affected citizens across the country.
