HM Amit Shah Marks Delhi Police 79th Raising Day Ceremony

Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the 79th Raising Day ceremony of the Delhi Police on February 16, 2026, as the chief guest.

He commended the force for its service to the nation’s capital and conferred President’s Medals for Distinguished Service upon decorated officers.

He also presented awards to the Best Police Stations, recognising exemplary performance and public service.

Established in 1948, the Delhi Police bears responsibility for safeguarding the national capital.

Shah praised its commitment to maintaining law and order amid evolving security challenges.

The ceremony featured a formal parade showcasing specialised units, including SWAT commandos and canine squads.

Officers demonstrated operational readiness and tactical coordination. The display underscored the force’s 2025 achievements.

Officials highlighted that police teams neutralised nine listed gangsters in encounters and tracked 32 fugitives operating abroad.

Authorities intensified efforts against cybercrime, narcotics networks and organised syndicates.

Shah inaugurated the ₹857 crore Safe City Project for Delhi during the event.

The initiative deploys more than 10,000 CCTV cameras across strategic locations.

It integrates artificial intelligence-based surveillance systems to strengthen crime detection and public safety mechanisms.

The project aims to enhance rapid response and preventive policing in high-density urban zones.

The Home Minister also laid foundation stones for ten infrastructure projects.

These include a ₹400 crore Special Cell headquarters equipped with advanced cyber laboratories and anti-terror facilities.

In addition, he announced the e-foundation stone for a ₹368 crore integrated Special Cell complex.

The upcoming facility will feature digital war rooms, high-end forensic cyber labs and dedicated anti-narcotics and counter-extremism modules.

Officials described it as the most technologically advanced policing centre in the country.
