HM Amit Shah Inaugurates Criminal Law Exhibition In Andaman’s Sri Vijaya Puram

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 3, 2026, inaugurated a three-day exhibition in Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, marking a decisive shift in India’s criminal justice framework under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The exhibition showcased the implementation of landmark reforms that replaced colonial-era laws with India-centric legal codes designed to deliver faster, fairer, and technology-driven justice.

Addressing officials, citizens, and law enforcement personnel, Shah said the PM Modi government has decisively broken free from outdated British statutes by introducing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam in 2024.

He asserted that these laws restore dignity to citizens, prioritise victims’ rights, and strengthen national security while ensuring transparency and accountability.

Shah emphasised that the exhibition aimed to educate people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands about the practical benefits of the new justice system.

He highlighted the introduction of Zero FIRs, e-FIRs, and mandatory forensic-based evidence, which together reduce delays and eliminate jurisdictional barriers, particularly in remote regions.

According to Union Home Ministry data, digital reforms have already delivered measurable results. By October 2025, nearly 60 per cent of FIRs were registered within mandated timelines, a sharp rise from 40 per cent earlier, significantly accelerating the justice delivery process.

Shah credited this progress to the Modi government’s focus on technology integration and institutional reform.

Justice Modernised & Citizens Empowered

The exhibition featured interactive installations demonstrating modern police control rooms, women and child help desks, and simulated forensic crime scenes.

These displays highlighted how digital tools and scientific evidence now form the backbone of investigations, replacing confession-based policing with evidence-led procedures.

Shah noted that the government has trained 8.61 lakh police personnel across the country to adapt to the new legal ecosystem. He said this nationwide capacity-building effort ensures uniform implementation of the laws and strengthens public trust in policing institutions.

Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Shah stated that justice should reach the last citizen without fear, delay, or discrimination. He said the new criminal laws align with India’s democratic values and constitutional spirit, unlike colonial codes designed to control rather than serve the population.

The Union Home Minister also underlined the strategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, saying that reforms must reach every corner of the country.

He described the islands as a testing ground for citizen-centric governance, where technology bridges distance and empowers communities.

By inaugurating the exhibition, Shah signalled that criminal justice reform under PM Modi is no longer limited to legislation alone but has entered the phase of visible, ground-level transformation.

The exhibition, officials said, reflects India’s determination to deliver swift justice while safeguarding human rights and national interest.
