Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordered the formation of a multi-sectoral Central team to tackle the rising natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh, an official said on Sunday. Shah reviewed the situation in a recent meeting.
Officials informed him about the growing frequency of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall. These disasters have caused major loss of life, damaged infrastructure, ruined livelihoods, and harmed the environment.
Shah immediately set up a Central team. It includes experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, a geologist, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore.
The Centre has already sent an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to Himachal Pradesh. It aims to assess damages from the monsoon floods, flash floods, and landslides of 2025.
The team started its visit on 18 July and will stay till 21 July.
Thirteen teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are active in the state. They are carrying out rescue and relief operations.
The Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continues to support states during disasters. A high-level committee led by Shah approved ₹2,006.40 crore for recovery in Himachal Pradesh. The first instalment of ₹451.44 crore was released on 7 July.
The Centre also released ₹198.80 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on 18 June. It has provided full logistical support, including NDRF units, Army teams, and Air Force assistance to Himachal Pradesh and other affected states.
