HM Amit Shah Concludes Bihar Visit With India–Nepal Border Security Review In Purnea

HM Amit Shah concluded his three-day visit to Bihar with a high-level security review in Purnea on Friday.

The Union Home Minister assessed border management along the India-Nepal frontier during a meeting held at Zero Mile in the city. The deliberations focused on tightening security mechanisms, preventing unlawful infiltration, and improving intelligence coordination across border districts.

HM Amit Shah stressed decisive action against infiltrators, signalling the likelihood of stricter enforcement measures in the near future.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended the meeting. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai was also present.

Senior officials, including the State Director General of Police, the Inspector General of the border range, Deputy Superintendents of Police from 12 districts, and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from Purnea, Araria, Katihar and Kishanganj, participated in the review. Other senior administrative and police officers joined the session.

Authorities carried out a comprehensive assessment of surveillance and administration along the nearly 700-kilometre India-Nepal border.

Based on intelligence inputs, agencies formulated a revised strategy to counter suspicious movements, illegal entry, and smuggling activities in frontier areas.

Officials underlined the need to expand technical surveillance systems. They called for stronger intelligence grids and tighter inter-agency coordination. They also directed the activation of border police stations and intensified joint operations between state police units and the Sashastra Seema Bal.

The Seemanchal region holds strategic importance. It lies close to Nepal and Bangladesh. It also borders the critical Siliguri Corridor, widely known as the ‘Chicken Neck’, which connects mainland India to the Northeast.

Given this sensitivity, officials ordered further reinforcement of security infrastructure across the belt.

Sources indicated that authorities may soon announce concrete administrative and technological initiatives to enhance border governance.

Purnea remained under heightened alert throughout HM Amit Shah’s visit. Security agencies deployed heavy police contingents along key routes. They monitored sensitive stretches at 100-metre intervals. Officials implemented route lining, parking controls, and crowd management systems.

Health teams, ambulances, and trauma units remained on standby.

Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Bihar on 25 February. During his visit, he reviewed security in Kishanganj, Araria and Purnea, interacted with personnel, and inspected villages selected under the Vibrant Village Programme-2.

Observers view the visit as significant for national and frontier security.
