HM Amit Shah Calls Narcotics Control Essential To Achieving PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat@2047 Vision

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building Viksit Bharat@2047 cannot succeed if narcotics addiction weakens the country’s youth and future generations.

Inaugurating the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) heads from states and Union Territories, Shah called for collective action against the drug trade. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised the two-day conference under the theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility”.

The conference brings together ANTF heads from 36 states and UTs, government departments and other stakeholders.

Discussions focus on narcotics control, dismantling drug cartels, synthetic drugs, darknet operations and cryptocurrency investigations.

Shah said the government aims to eradicate the drug trade from India by December 31, 2029. He described narcotics as one of the most serious threats facing India and the world.

The Home Minister said India had addressed terrorism in Kashmir, Northeast insurgency and Naxalism through coordinated efforts over the past five years. He called the fight against drugs the country’s most difficult battle but stressed that authorities cannot abandon it.

Shah described the Vision Document 2026-2029 as the guiding framework for the anti-narcotics campaign.

More than 35 departments contributed to its preparation. The document sets clear targets, timelines and a roadmap based on stakeholder inputs.

He said intelligence, investigation, financial action and prosecution must work in one direction.

The first ANTF conference established the institutional mechanism, while the second focused on capability and execution. At the third conference, Shah said authorities would turn the roadmap into decisive action.

He released an anti-drug awareness video, laid foundation stones for new NCB Zone complexes in Lucknow and Dehradun, and launched the NCB’s redesigned website. Best-performing state and UT ANTFs were honoured.
