Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that tourists from across India continue to show keen interest in visiting Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasised, “The enthusiasm of tourists from across the country to visit Jammu and Kashmir has not diminished. There is a need for aggressive marketing of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist destinations in other states to explore the tourism potential available here.”
HM Shah also underlined the importance of actively promoting the union territory’s destinations in other states to maximise its tourism potential. He assured that the BJP-led Central Government would provide full support to develop new attractions and facilities for visitors.
The Home Minister chaired a development review session at Lok Bhawan, Jammu, to assess the progress of ongoing projects in the region. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, J&K Chief Secretary, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and other officials attended the meeting.
HM Shah’s remarks come in the context of the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack in south Kashmir, which killed 26 people and dealt a major blow to the tourism sector. He also reiterated that security measures are being strengthened to restore confidence among visitors and ensure safe travel.
On Saturday morning, HM Shah met with senior BJP leaders, MLAs, and MPs. He stated on X, “ Today, I held meetings in Jammu with the state office-bearers and MLAs, MPs of @BJP4JnK. BJP will continue working to ensure the ground-level reach of Modiji’s development initiatives, while expanding the organization, to realize the vision of ‘Developed Jammu & Kashmir, Secure Jammu & Kashmir’.”
On Friday, he visited the International Border in Kathua district, commending BSF personnel for safeguarding the nation. He also paid tribute to J&K Police martyrs, handing appointment letters to the families of those who sacrificed their lives in service.
This marked HM Shah’s second security review in J&K within a month, following a similar meeting in New Delhi on January 8. He directed security forces to adopt a mission-oriented approach to neutralise anti-state elements and maintain lasting peace.
HM Shah concluded his three-day visit by departing for Chhattisgarh on Saturday evening.
