High Alert In Uttar Pradesh Over Babri Masjid Anniversary

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have tightened security across the state ahead of 6 December, the date marking the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.

Extra precautions have been put in place, particularly in Ayodhya and Mathura. Police have been asked to remain alert, and multi-level safety arrangements have been set up.

Several districts have been placed on high alert due to the historical significance of the day and the events associated with Ayodhya on this date.

In Mathura, strong security has been positioned around the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi area and the Shahi Eidgah Mosque.

Barricades have been installed, and the zone has been divided into smaller sections for effective oversight. CCTV monitoring and drone surveillance are being used alongside on-ground deployment.

Ayodhya is seeing a similar scale of security preparedness.

In Vrindavan, key religious sites, including Banke Bihari Temple and Prem Mandir, are under strict watch.

Police personnel are conducting checks around major temples and screening vehicles entering the area.

Additional forces from nearby regions have also been moved to support the operations.

The Provincial Armed Constabulary and the Rapid Action Force have been kept ready for quick mobilisation.

Plain-clothes police officers are stationed near important religious locations to monitor public movement discreetly.

The increased alert level also relates to the ongoing legal dispute over the Shahi Eidgah Mosque in Mathura.

Hindu groups maintain that a temple marking the birthplace of Lord Krishna once stood at the site before it was replaced during Aurangzeb’s rule.

The case is currently being heard in the Supreme Court, adding to the tension.

Significance of 6 December

The date of 6 December remains sensitive, as it is observed differently by communities; some mark it as ‘Shaurya Diwas’, while others observe it as a ‘Black Day’.

This contrast requires careful policing to maintain peace.

Ayodhya carries the deepest association with 6 December, as the Babri Masjid demolition sparked decades of legal and political conflict over the ownership of the site.

A major change came in November 2019. The Supreme Court awarded the land to Ram Lalla Virajman for the construction of a Ram temple. It also allocated another plot in Ayodhya for a new mosque under the Sunni Waqf Board.

The foundation stone for the Ram temple was laid in August 2020 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. This marked the beginning of construction at the disputed location.

As of December 2025, the Ram temple stands completed.

On 25 November, the Prime Minister raised the saffron flag on the temple’s spire, marking a ceremonial milestone in the long-awaited project.
