Heightened Security Measures Implemented Across Delhi Following CAA Notification

Security measures have been significantly enhanced in northeast Delhi, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia, and other sensitive areas throughout the national capital following the enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) on Monday, according to officials.

Police officers and paramilitary forces have been deployed in various locations, and flag marches have been conducted in parts of northeast and southeast Delhi, they added.

Delhi experienced communal unrest in 2020 related to the CAA and NRC (National Register of Citizens).

Joy Tirkey, DCP Northeast, emphasized, “The safety of every individual in Delhi’s northeast district is our priority.” He further mentioned that intensive patrolling and inspections are being carried out by the northeast district police and paramilitary forces to ensure citizens’ safety in sensitive areas. The officer urged everyone to adhere to safety instructions.

“We have heightened nighttime surveillance in collaboration with paramilitary forces. We will not tolerate any disturbances to law and order. Flag marches have been conducted to ensure the safety of every individual,” stated the DCP, Joy Tirkey.

The regulations for implementing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 were notified on Monday, allowing for the granting of citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

With the issuance of the CAA regulations, the Modi government will now begin conferring Indian nationality upon persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India by December 31, 2014. This includes Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians.
