On Tuesday, heavy rain brought much-needed relief from the prolonged heat in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), offering a welcome change with cooler temperatures, grey skies, and notably cleaner air.
The showers, which came after days of high temperatures, have contributed to a noticeable improvement in air quality across the region.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the pleasant weather pattern will likely continue into the first week of August.
The forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies between 29 July and 3 August, with chances of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at various locations.
Specifically, moderate rainfall is expected on 29 and 30 July, followed by thunderstorms with rain from 31 July to 1 August.
Light to moderate showers are likely through 2 and 3 August. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay between 30°C and 34°C, while nighttime lows may range from 24°C to 27°C.
The rain has also helped to cleanse the air. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and state agencies shows that Air Quality Index (AQI) levels have dropped significantly in many parts of the capital.
Areas such as Alipur (84), Ashok Vihar (88), ITO (99), Narela (88), IGI Airport (82), and Chandni Chowk (69) have now reached the ‘satisfactory’ range.
Some locations still reported ‘moderate’ air quality — including Jahangirpuri (156), Mundka (135), and Dwarka Sector-8 (105). However, the overall trend is positive, with neighbouring regions also experiencing cleaner air.
In Noida, Sector-125 recorded an AQI of 97, while Sector-62 stood at 61. Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park-III registered a notably low AQI of 57.
Ghaziabad also saw improvement, with Indirapuram at 63, Sanjay Nagar at 93, and Vasundhara at 83.
This break in the weather has not only eased the discomfort of summer heat and humidity but also brought a brief respite from the city’s persistent air pollution, giving residents a breath of cleaner, fresher air.
