Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC), Punjab, successfully concluded the two-day ASCENT 2026 conference at its New Chandigarh campus on Sunday.
The event focused on advancing education and skill development in allied health sciences and brought together nearly 350 delegates, including faculty members, healthcare professionals and students from institutions across the country.
The conference was inaugurated by Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha as the chief guest, while Dr Ashish Gulia, Director of HBCHRC Punjab, attended as the guest of honour.
Participants represented several leading institutions, including PGIMER Chandigarh, Government Medical College Sector-32 Chandigarh, Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi, Aligarh Muslim University, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, AIIMS Delhi, and several other government and private medical colleges.
The scientific programme featured expert lectures highlighting the latest developments in allied health sciences.
Delegates also took part in practical workshops covering radiology, pathology, anaesthesia and operation theatre technology, providing hands-on training to strengthen their clinical knowledge and technical skills.
Addressing the gathering, KAP Sinha emphasised that a strong healthcare system depends on the collective expertise of every professional involved in patient care.
Doctors cannot deliver quality treatment without skilled allied health professionals, he said, adding that strengthening this workforce is vital for better patient outcomes. He also praised HBCHRC Punjab for advancing cancer care and healthcare education in North India.
Dr Ashish Gulia said education is one of the Tata Memorial Centre’s three core pillars alongside patient care and research. He added that ASCENT will continue as an annual initiative to strengthen the skilled healthcare workforce and enhance patient care across North India.
