Hazira Has Emerged As A Self-Reliant Industrial Ecosystem, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday described Hazira as a powerful example of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, saying the industrial centre has transformed into an integrated ecosystem connecting manufacturing, energy, defence production, ports and global trade.

Speaking after visiting Hazira ahead of his public programme in Surat, the Prime Minister highlighted the region’s growing importance. He said Hazira reflects the practical implementation of the government’s self-reliance initiative and is emerging as one of the country’s most significant maritime industrial hubs.

“One can clearly understand the meaning of Atmanirbhar Bharat by visiting Hazira. Hazira today is not merely an industrial area. It has become an ecosystem where energy, steel, defence production, ports, and global trade all coexist,” he said.

PM Modi noted that continued investments in industrial infrastructure and logistics networks across Gujarat are helping strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and improve connectivity between production centres and ports. He also stressed that self-reliance should not be seen as isolation but as the development of strong domestic capabilities in strategic sectors.

“There are some pessimistic people in the country who continue to mock the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. They forget that a country dependent on others can never achieve the heights of development it deserves,” he said.

The Prime Minister linked industrial expansion with major transport infrastructure projects. These include the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.

According to him, modern infrastructure is increasingly reaching regions that were previously outside major economic networks. He highlighted the Dahod-Bodeli-Vapi corridor and road projects connecting tribal districts such as Narmada and Tapi.

“They would reduce travel times, lower transport costs and improve access to education, healthcare and employment opportunities,” Prime Minister Modi noted.

PM Modi also said better connectivity would boost tourism. He said improved access would help destinations such as the Statue of Unity and Saputara attract more visitors.

The Prime Minister added that industrial development and infrastructure expansion must progress together. He said improved social services were also essential to help India achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation.
