Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij announced plans on Wednesday for a state-of-the-art Millennium bus station in Gurugram, equipped with modern facilities to serve commuters. The new station will offer passengers a wide range of essential services to ensure a comfortable experience.
During a surprise inspection of the city’s current bus stand, Vij expressed his dissatisfaction with the present conditions. “The state government has acquired land for a new bus stand in Gurugram, and we are preparing a detailed project report to begin construction soon,” he said. The new station, as Vij stated, will be ultra-modern, providing all necessary facilities for passengers.
In addition to the bus station, Vij revealed that the state government plans to buy 750 new buses. Furthermore, he hinted at the possibility of building an electronic centre in Gurugram to maintain the fitness of these buses, enhancing public transport services in the city.
While inspecting the existing bus stand, Vij emphasized that any additional facilities required to improve passenger comfort should be proposed. He urged the General Manager to submit a proposal for further improvements, ensuring that people have the best possible amenities at the bus stand.
Vij also responded to concerns regarding encroachment outside the bus stand. “I have instructed the Station House Officer to ensure that any bus parked outside the bus stand should be immediately taken to the police station,” he said.
Addressing another query about food hygiene at the bus stand, Vij emphasized that only clean, legal food items will be allowed for sale at Haryana’s bus stands. “We have devised a policy to ensure that illegal items are not sold. We are also in discussions with Haryana Tourism to provide quality food at all bus stands for the convenience of the public,” he stated.
In a bid to maintain cleanliness, the Minister directed Gurugram General Manager Pradeep Kumar to ensure that the bus stand is cleaned daily using a vacuum cleaner machine.
Vij also took the opportunity to inspect the office of the Superintending Engineer of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam in Gurugram. He instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) to carefully review the files related to equipment purchases and prioritize addressing public grievances as soon as possible.
