GuruJal And Wipro Foundation Launch HydroMingle Delhi 2025 To Combat Gurugram’s Declining Groundwater

Gurugram district is confronting a rapid drop in groundwater levels, driven by urbanisation, rising demand, and limited natural recharge.

Traditional dug wells, once the primary water source for villages, are now mostly dry or in poor condition.

A survey across over 200 villages recorded 424 dug wells and 278 borewells, of which more than 330 dug wells are inactive.

Alarmingly, only 3% of these wells are linked to rainwater harvesting, and many are threatened by nearby polluted ponds.

In response, GuruJal, an initiative by Abhipsa Foundation supported by Wipro Foundation, launched the ‘Comprehensive Inventory and Revival of Dug Wells in Gurugram District’ project.

The initiative employs scientific mapping, hydrogeological studies, and community participation to restore old wells.

Pilot projects in Khandewala (rainwater recharge model) and Daulatabad (cultural revival model) have set successful precedents.

To discuss progress and chart the way forward, the Roots & Recharge Symposium 2025 will convene government agencies, researchers, CSR partners, and community leaders.

The event will release Gurugram’s dug well inventory, launch an SOP for well revival, and publish a coffee table book titled Wells of Gurugram.

HydroMingle: A Unique Collaboration Platform

HydroMingle, a one-day ecosystem event, unites innovators, technologists, CSR partners, researchers, and policymakers to exchange ideas and co-develop solutions.

This edition, hosted in Delhi by GuruJal and FluxGen Sustainable Technologies, aims to foster collaboration between government, academia, the private sector, and local communities.

With India facing a severe water crisis, including a 25-metre drop in Gurugram’s groundwater over two decades, HydroMingle connects research, entrepreneurship, and policy for practical impact.

The 2025 theme, Through the Wave of Water Technology: Connecting Systems, Science & Society, emphasises holistic water innovation using bio-design, digital intelligence, and financial solutions.

The event aims to accelerate water innovation and generate scalable solutions for both urban and rural areas. It also seeks to establish a regional water innovation cluster and facilitate knowledge-sharing on policy and practice.
