Gunfight In Kulgam Forest Leaves One Terrorist Dead, Soldier Injured

A fierce exchange of fire broke out on Monday between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Security forces killed one terrorist in the ongoing encounter in the Gudar forest area, while the gunfight left an Army soldier injured.

The wounded soldier was shifted to the hospital, and reinforcements were rushed to the cordoned zone.

Officials said security personnel launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Gudar forest after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists.

“As the joint forces came closer, hiding terrorists opened fire after which an encounter started. Till last reports came in firing was going on in the area,” an official stated.

Security agencies have recently intensified anti-terror operations across the Union Territory, targeting not only active militants but also their overground workers (OGWs) and local sympathisers.

According to security officials, dismantling the terror network requires going beyond eliminating armed militants to weakening the support structures that sustain militancy.

Infiltration Attempts Along LoC

Following the suspension of ‘Operation Sindoor’, terrorists have made repeated attempts to infiltrate from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC).

The Army guards the 740 km Line of Control (LoC) in J&K, while the Border Security Force (BSF) secures the 240 km International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.

Terror groups, with Pakistani backing, have increasingly turned to drones along the International Border to smuggle arms, drugs and cash into Indian territory.

To counter this, the BSF has deployed specialised anti-drone systems to foil such attempts and prevent cross-border handlers from supplying militants.

Security forces are closely tracking drug traffickers and hawala networks, believing these rackets fund terrorism.

Investigations into several cases have revealed that both drug smuggling and hawala money trails often lead back to Pakistan-based handlers directing terror operations in the region.
