Gujarat Emerging As Global Hub, Says Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava As PM Modi Flags Off e-Vitara

Calling it a landmark for India’s manufacturing vision, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava on Tuesday said the company’s Gujarat plant is being developed into a global hub.

The announcement came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, the e-Vitara. He also inaugurated India’s first lithium-ion battery cell plant at Hansalpur, Gujarat.

Speaking to reporters, Bhargava said the Prime Minister’s presence has infused fresh energy into the company.

“Today is a truly proud and historic occasion for us as PM Modi has inaugurated two landmark steps for India’s future,” he said.

e-Vitara to Drive India’s EV Exports

The Prime Minister flagged off the e-Vitara and inaugurated the lithium-ion battery plant, which has a capacity to roll out 7.5 lakh cars annually.

Bhargava highlighted that the e-Vitara will serve Indian customers and be exported to more than 100 countries.

“The e-Vitara will not only cater to Indian buyers but also be exported worldwide. Gujarat will emerge as a global manufacturing hub under the Make in India, Make for the World vision,” Bhargava added.

Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer, Rahul Bharti, called the moment a milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance.

“We are building advanced battery electric vehicles for over 100 global markets. At the same time, our subsidiary TDSG Lithium-Ion Battery Gujarat Private Limited has achieved deep localisation – from battery packs to cells and now electrode manufacturing,” he said.

Young Engineers Showcase Skills

Bharti added that it was an emotional and proud moment for the company. Young engineering students and skilled associates demonstrated their work before the Prime Minister.

Maruti Suzuki confirmed that the e-Vitara will be manufactured exclusively in Gujarat as part of a single-location global production strategy. The SUV is set to launch in several markets in the coming financial year, though pricing and exact timelines are yet to be disclosed.

Maruti Suzuki plant in Gujarat rolls out nearly 7.5 lakh cars annually. The output from the plant is only 2-3% of the company’s annual production.

The scale of manufacturing showcases Gujarat and India’s manufacturing strength.
