Great Honour To Represent India At Trump’s Inauguration: EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed his honor in representing India at the inauguration ceremony of US President Donald Trump, marking the beginning of his second term in office.

Taking to X, Jaishankar posted, “A great honour to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of @POTUS President Donald J Trump and @VP Vice President JD Vance in Washington DC today.”

Jaishankar’s attendance highlights the significance of the India-US relationship and the shared diplomatic ties between the two nations, particularly as Trump embarks on his second term as President.

Earlier in the day, Trump took the oath as the 47th President of the United States at the US Capitol, administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. JD Vance sworn in as the 50th Vice President of the US just before Trump’s ceremony.

Trump’s Vision: A ‘Golden Age’ For America

In his inaugural speech, Trump declared the commencement of a ‘golden age’ for America, calling the day ‘Liberation Day’ for the country.

He spoke on the issue of inflation, attributing it to excessive government spending and rising energy costs, announcing a national energy emergency.

“The inflation crisis caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill,” Trump stated.

The US President criticized the administration’s response to the Los Angeles wildfires and emphasized the need to prevent such incidents.

Trump noted, “More recently Los Angeles, where we are watching fires still tragically burn. From weeks ago without even a token of defence, they’re raging through the houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer, that’s interesting, but we can’t let this happen.

“We have a public health system that does not deliver in times of disaster, yet more money is spent on it than any country anywhere in the world and we have an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves in many cases to hate our country despite the love that we try so desperately to. All of this will change starting today and it will change very quickly,” he added.
