Government To Launch NIELIT Digital University With Courses In AI, Cybersecurity & Data Science

The government plans to open the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) on Thursday to deliver advanced digital education nationwide.

The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) has quietly emerged as one of the strongest pillars of India’s digital learning space.

Over the years, it has taken digital literacy to the grassroots while also preparing students and professionals for the fast-changing world of technology.

From artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to data science and even semiconductors, the institute’s training programmes are to match industry needs rather than remain confined to theory.

Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, will conduct the launch.

The Digital University, run by NIELIT, will feature adaptable courses focused on industry needs in AI, cybersecurity, data science, semiconductors and more.

It will provide learners with virtual labs, cutting-edge tools and practical industry insights.

Together with the launch, five new NIELIT centres will be virtually opened in Muzaffarpur, Balasore, Tirupati, Daman and Lunglei.

More than 1,500 participants, including students, academicians, and technology experts, are likely to attend.

The event will also see the signing of MoUs with leading industry partners to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia.

NIELIT already operates 56 centres, 750 accredited institutes and over 9,000 facilitation centres across India.

According to government data, it has trained over 43 lakh youth in digital and emerging technologies.

The government has provided NIELIT with more than Rs 493 crore since 2020-21, the largest being Rs 153 crore in 2024-25.

The Digital University will help India’s youth gain future-ready digital skills and strengthen the country’s global presence.
