Goa Police Apprehends Suspect In Murder Of Woman Who Ended Relationship

A 22-year-old man, Prakash Chunchwad, has been arrested by Goa police on charges of allegedly murdering a 30-year-old woman, Kamakshi Uddapnov. The incident unfolded after Kamakshi decided to terminate their brief relationship, and her body was discovered dumped in the forests of Amboli in south Maharashtra. Police have also apprehended Prakash Chunchwad’s friend, Nirupadi Karakal, 21, who is believed to have assisted in disposing of the victim’s body.

According to a family member named Vaishali, an altercation occurred between Kamakshi and Prakash on Tuesday, during which he reportedly threatened her. While they had previously been friends, Kamakshi did not view their connection as romantic. However, Prakash appeared to have different intentions, leading to their disagreement. Subsequently, Kamakshi filed a complaint at the Mapusa Police Station.

Regrettably, the police initially categorized the complaint as a non-cognizable offence and issued a warning to Prakash after summoning him to the police station. Kamakshi went missing the following day, with her room displaying signs of bloodstains that had been partially cleaned.

North Goa Superintendent of Police, Nidhin Valsan, revealed that Kamakshi had been in a relationship with the accused, which she had recently terminated. Valsan stated, “Because of this, the accused person committed this gruesome act.”

During the investigation, Prakash Chunchwad initially attempted to mislead the police with false information. However, through technical surveillance and local intelligence, he eventually confessed to the murder. He admitted to stabbing Kamakshi multiple times with a knife before disposing of her body in Amboli Ghat, Maharashtra, late in the evening on August 30.

Chunchwad and his accomplice transported the victim’s body in their sedan, driving over 70 kilometres into Maharashtra to discard her remains in a remote area. Following Chunchwad’s confession, he led the police team to the location where the body had been discarded. The Porvorim Police, along with a forensic team and the assistance of the Sawantwadi police station and local rescue teams, successfully located and recovered Kamakshi’s body, which had been thrown approximately 50 meters into the ghat area.
