G20 Summit 2023: Prime Minister Modi welcomed all the G20 guests in front of the Konark Chakra. Foreign leaders including U.S. President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were greeted by PM Modi.
It’s worth noting that the location where PM Modi welcomed all the guests with a handshake was adorned with symbols of Indian art and culture, including the Konark Chakra and Nataraja sculpture.
The Konark Chakra holds significant historical and cultural importance as it represents progress and continuous change, originally built in the 13th century during the rule of King Narasimhadeva I in Odisha. It serves as a powerful symbol of democracy’s wheel in motion, signifying progress and constant evolution.
The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) demonstration is also being showcased during the G20 Summit in India, highlighting innovations in the RBI’s hub. This allows international delegates who don’t have bank accounts in India to transfer money using mobile wallets. India has been showcasing its achievements over the past nine months, conducting more than 200 meetings across 60 locations.
Several other foreign leaders and dignitaries, such as Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau, Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni, Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Japan’s PM Fumio Kishida, Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, UAE’s President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Singapore’s PM Lee Hsien Loong, Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Nadia Calviño, Netherlands’ PM Mark Rutte, Mauritius’ PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and World Bank President Ajay Banga, have all arrived at the G20 Summit venue in India.
