G20 Summit 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. During their meeting, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen trade relations and boost investments between the two countries.
Before this, PM Modi also had a bilateral discussion with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. They discussed several issues during their meeting. The British PM is currently on a visit to India to participate in the G20 Summit.
The G20 Summit, chaired by India, commenced on Saturday, with the African Union becoming a permanent member of the group, which comprises the world’s largest economies. The G20 was established in 1999, and this expansion marks the first of its kind since then.
World leaders gathered for the G20 Summit called for immediate action to address various global challenges, including climate change. British PM Rishi Sunak stated that the G20 leaders are coming together once again to provide global leadership in exceptionally challenging times. He emphasized the need to revive global development after the financial crisis 15 years ago.
He said, “We are coming together at an exceptionally challenging time – the world is once again looking to the G20 for global leadership. I believe we can meet these challenges together.”
Meanwhile, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva mentioned that during his country’s G20 presidency, a task force would be created to support the global climate change agenda. He stated, “With a balanced climate agenda, conciliation, adaptation, harm and damage, and financing, we aim to reach ‘COP 30’ by 2025, ensuring the stability of the planet and the dignity of people.”
