Amritpal Singh
A major aide of radical preacher Amritpal Singh has been detained for reportedly providing housing and other help to a Khalistan supporter in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
Joga Singh, a Ludhiana resident who runs a ‘dera’ in Pilibhit, was on his way to Punjab via Haryana, a senior police official said on Saturday, adding that the police were on his tail.
“Joga Singh had direct communication with Amritpal Singh. He arranged for Amritpal Singh to have a place to stay and transportation. He arranged for him to stay in Pilibhit before returning to Punjab”, said Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Narinder Bhargav at a press briefing.
Earlier, police announced the arrest of two additional men for allegedly harboring Amritpal Singh, who has been on the run since police launched a crackdown on him last month.
According to the police, the arrested males are Rajdeep Singh of Babak village in Hoshiarpur district and Sarbjit Singh of Jalandhar district.
On Friday night, Rajdeep Singh and Sarbjit Singh were both brought before the duty magistrate and placed on one-day police remand.
Last month, the authorities launched a huge crackdown on Amritpal Singh and members of his ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization.
On March 18, 2023, the radical preacher fled the police net in Jalandhar district by switching vehicles and changing his look.
