From Rally To Roadside Snack: PM Modi’s Jhalmuri Moment Breaks Internet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sparked widespread online attention after a brief snack stop during election campaigning in West Bengal on April 19.

Visuals of him enjoying jhalmuri at a roadside stall and interacting with a vendor gained extraordinary traction across digital platforms.

Content shared on his official social media accounts crossed 100 million views on Instagram within 24 hours, while Facebook Reels recorded over 90 million views, reflecting strong public engagement.

During his campaign tour, the Prime Minister addressed four consecutive rallies in Purulia, Jhargram, Medinipur, and Bishnupur.

While in Jhargram, PM Modi paused to visit a local stall, sampled the popular snack, and engaged warmly with residents.

The footage captured a candid moment of outreach, with the Prime Minister smiling, conversing, and acknowledging the vendor.

Data indicates that online searches for ‘jhalmuri’ surged to their highest level in more than two decades following the incident.

The interaction resonated widely, with users sharing and commenting on the clip across platforms.

In the video, the Prime Minister offered to pay for the snack. The vendor initially declined but later accepted after repeated insistence.

When asked about adding onions, PM Modi responded with a light-hearted remark, adding humour to the exchange.

The episode triggered mixed reactions online. Many users appreciated the relatable and informal gesture, while others raised concerns regarding security and protocol during such unscheduled interactions.

The moment nonetheless highlighted the power of spontaneous engagement in shaping public perception during high-profile political campaigns.
