Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Vadnagar in Gujarat on September 17 to launch the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Vadnagar to Varanasi’ Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra.
Shah will flag off the journey at 9:30 AM from Vadnagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthplace, before attending several programmes in the city.
A parallel yatra will start from Varanasi at the same time and travel towards Vadnagar.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu are expected to join the launch in Varanasi.
The two yatras will collectively travel nearly 40,000 km through 193 districts and about 1,159 villages across 10 states.
Around 1,000 young participants will take part, with 500 travelling in each direction.
The campaign will feature tree plantation drives and cleanliness initiatives. It will include Nasha Mukt Bharat and TB Mukt Bharat activities, alongside awareness programmes on water conservation.
Participants will interact with beneficiaries of government schemes, young people and women involved in empowerment programmes. Sanitation workers will be recognised.
Four preparatory sub-yatras began from Somnath, Shamlaji, Pavagadh and Unai Mataji on September 13.
Organisers will collect water from rivers, lakes, wells and other sources along the routes and transport it in a ‘Jal Kalash Rath’.
The collection will include water from rivers such as the Narmada, Sabarmati, Mahi, Gomti, Vishwamitri and Tapi.
At Vadnagar, the water will receive an addition from Sharmishtha Lake before devotees conduct a Jalabhishek at Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple.
The Jal Kalash will then travel towards Varanasi for another Jalabhishek at Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Shah will later travel to Ahmedabad, where he will offer prayers at Shri Jagannath Temple at 5:15 PM. He will then attend the ‘Aashirwad No Deewo’ programme at Kankaria Lake at 5:45 PM. He will participate in the Ganesh Mahotsav at Sardar Patel Chowk in Vastrapur at 7 PM.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will run alongside programmes nationwide to mark PM Modi’s birthday on September 17 and his completion of 25 years in public life.
