Fresh Violence Erupts In Gurugram’s Badshahpur: 200 Men Vandalize 14 Shops, Set 7 Stores Ablaze

Amidst communal clashes that broke out in the Nuh district of Haryana that spread through Gurugram, fresh incidents of violence erupted in Badshahpur on Tuesday. During the unrest in the main market of Badshahpur, 200 men bearing motorbikes and SUVs vandalized 14 shops. Moreover, the mob set seven stores ablaze.

According to reports from Badshahpur, the mob targeted mostly biryani shops and other food stalls. This violence occurred one day after the mob attacked and set a mosque ablaze in Gurugram’s Sector 57, resulting in the death of the mosque’s naib imam and two police officers among others, as confirmed by the officials.

Gurugram deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav stated that the law and order situation is now normal, though there was some spillover impact in Sohna from the previous day’s events in Nuh. The situation was brought under control by evening, and a flag march was conducted in Gurugram. The violence also led to the death of one person in the Sector 57 mosque, the torching of five vehicles in Sohna, and the vandalism of 2-3 shops.

In response to the unrest, people have been advised to stay indoors and only go out for essential tasks. Authorities are urging the public not to believe rumours and maintain calm.

The violence originated during the ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra’ organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Haryana’s Nuh district. The death toll from the clashes has now reached 5, including two personnel from the Haryana home guard.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has hinted at a possible “big conspiracy” behind the clashes and has imposed Section 144 CrPC in Gurugram and Nuh. This legal provision empowers magistrates to restrict gatherings of four or more people in specified areas.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed deep concern over the communal clashes in Haryana, stating that such incidents are troubling and not a positive sign for the region.
