Fresh Bomb Hoax Emails Trigger Scare In Delhi Colleges

Delhi faced another spate of bomb threat emails on Wednesday, with nearly 20 colleges, including Jesus and Mary College in Chanakyapuri, reporting alarming messages, the Delhi Fire Services confirmed.

Officials said the latest email was quickly investigated and found to be a hoax.

Early checks suggest the sender may have used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to conceal their identity.

Recent Surge in Bomb Threats

The incident comes on the heels of a spurt of similar threats. Just last week, more than 100 schools across the city received bomb alerts over five consecutive days, all later dismissed as false.

On 21 August, several Delhi schools were evacuated after receiving threats. Six institutions, including those in Dwarka Sector 5 and Prasad Nagar, were targeted in the early hours.

Police, fire services, bomb disposal teams, and dog squads were immediately pressed into action.

Though nothing suspicious was recovered, searches went on for hours while investigators worked on tracing the IP addresses behind the emails.

Only days earlier, on 18 August, DPS in Dwarka had received a similar email, which also proved to be baseless.

The repeated hoaxes have unsettled schools and colleges, disrupting normal schedules.

Last month alone, over 50 schools were forced to switch temporarily to online classes after receiving such threats.

Emergency units, including bomb squads and fire brigades, were rushed to different parts of the capital.

Among the institutions previously targeted were:

  • Abhinav Public School in Rohini,
  • Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar,
  • St Stephen’s College, and
  • St Thomas School in Dwarka

On 17 July, at least seven schools were affected by such emails.

The frequency of these incidents has left students, parents, and teachers anxious.

While every threat so far has been dismissed as a hoax, the persistence of these emails continues to alarm the public.

In May, over 200 schools, colleges, hospitals, and even the Indira Gandhi International Airport were hit with similar threats, many of which are still under investigation, with several traced to overseas VPNs.
