Four Students Get Swept Away By Strong Currents As They Go For A Bath In Kuakhai River

In a tragic incident that occurred in Odisha, four students drowned to death in the Kuakhai river. The mishap took place on Tuesday when a group of eight students went for a bath on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in the river near Dhabalahar village under Balianta block.

According to the officials, the students were pursuing their education at a private management institute in Odisha and went to the river for a bath. Among them, four students identified as Aryan Mishra of Jamshedpur, Kumar Avinash of Cuttack, Rohit Parida of Balasore and Prateek Dhalasamanta of Balikuda, slipped into the river and got swept away by strong currents.

A search operation in order to retrieve the bodies was carried out by the Fire services personnel along with some scuba divers on Tuesday. Two bodies were recovered on the same day following which the operation was halted. The search resumed on Wednesday morning post which the other two bodies that were missing were found.

“The students arrived at the river to bathe around 2 pm. The police received the information around 5 pm. With the help of locals, the police and firefighters were able to recover the bodies of the missing students,” stated Jubaraj Swain, the officer in charge of Balianta police station.
