Four Fatalities And 10 Injuries During Muharram Preparation In Jharkhand

Tragedy struck during a Muharram procession in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district on Saturday, resulting in four fatalities and 10 injuries. The incident took place in Khetko village, about 80 km from the state capital, Ranchi, when a high-tension wire came into contact with the top portion of a Tazia, a religious miniature replica of the tomb of Imam Hussain. Bokaro Superintendent of Police, Priyadarshi Alok, reported that the accident occurred around 6 am. The injured were promptly taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Bokaro General Hospital, where unfortunately, four individuals lost their lives.

The deceased were identified as Sajid Ansari (18), Ashif Raza (21), Ghulam Hussain (19), and Enamul Rab (34). Bermo sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Satish Chandra Jha shared that currently, seven injured individuals are undergoing treatment at BGH, and their conditions have been reported as stable. He explained that the Tazia was made of thermocol sheets, and due to drizzling in the morning, electricity passed through the Tazia when it came into contact with the live wire. Those who were lifting the Tazia were the most affected by the incident.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his sorrow over the loss of four lives. He tweeted, “The sad news was received that four people died and 10 others got injured in an accident during the Muharram procession at Khetko in Bokaro district. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved family members to bear this difficult hour of grief.” He also conveyed his wishes for the speedy recovery of all the injured individuals. Jharkhand Excise Minister Bebi Devi also visited the injured at the Bokaro General Hospital to offer her support and concern.
