Former IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal and retired IG reportedly shot himself on Monday in Patiala. A bullet in the chest injured him gravely, prompting the Police to take him to the Park Hospital, where he is being treated in critical condition.
Police reportedly found a suicide note that mentions an online fraud that happened with the former IPS, who sustained financial loss. Reports suggest he was scammed by cyber fraud, which is being investigated by the Police.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. While there has been no official confirmation of his death, his condition remains critical.
SSP Varun Sharma said that upon receiving the information police rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital. Police is investigating the matter and will soon disclose more about the case.
Amar Singh Chahal is allegedly accused of Behbal Kalan and Kotakpura Firing incident, when the Police had opened fire, killing two, on the people protesting against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib.
In 2023, the Special Investigating Team of Punjab Police submitted a charge sheet naming Chahal and other police officers in the case.
