A tourist from Spain was reportedly subjected to a gangrape in Jharkhand’s Dumka district on Friday night, as per police officials. The incident took place at Kurumahat in the Hansdiha police station area, where the tourist couple had set up a makeshift tent for the night.
The couple’s intended destination was Nepal via Bihar. They had arrived from Bangladesh on a two-wheeler.
Jarmundi Sub Divisional Police Officer Santosh Kumar indicated that further details on the incident would be provided later. According to reports, seven to eight local youths were allegedly involved in the crime, leading to the arrest of three individuals. A manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects. The victim has been admitted to a local hospital.
State health minister Banna Gupta expressed unawareness of the complete facts. He committed to take strict action against the wrongdoers within the bounds of the law. He assured reporters about the government’s commitment to take strict action against all those evildoers who were involved in committing such a crime against any of our sisters, Indian or foreigner, within the law.
BJP MLA Anant Ojha condemned the incident, labelling it a “stain of the state” and evidence of the worsening law and order situation. Ojha urged swift action by the police and emphasized the need for the government to address the issue promptly. The alleged crime coincidentally occurred on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Jharkhand, expressing serious concerns about the state’s law and order and extortion problems.
