Five Times MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely Praises PM Modi For Honouring Sikh Gurus’ Legacy

Senior BJP leader and five-time MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely on Tuesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he described as an unprecedented recognition of Sikh history and the sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus.

In an emotional video message, the former Delhi Minister said that despite decades in public life, he had never seen a Prime Minister highlight Sikh heritage with such depth and sincerity.

“PM Modi is the first head of government to truly acknowledge the sacrifices made by Sikh Gurus,” Lovely said, recalling how the Prime Minister often references the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur and the unparalleled courage of Guru Gobind Singh and his sons in his speeches.

Lovely said he felt compelled to make the statement after hearing the Prime Minister speak during the NDA meeting earlier in the day.

PM Modi’s reference to Veer Bal Diwas—the national day commemorating the martyrdom of the Sahibzade, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh—particularly moved him. The occasion is observed annually on December 26.

“What touched me most was his appeal to mothers across the country to narrate the stories of the Sahibzade to their children,” Lovely said, adding that this level of acknowledgement for Sikh contributions is a first in independent India.

Remembering the Sacrifice of the Sahibzade

Veer Bal Diwas pays homage to the two young Sikh princes who chose death over forced conversion, symbolising unshakeable faith and courage.

MLA Lovely’s remarks came a day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet visited Amritsar.

CM Gupta offered prayers at the Golden Temple, expressing gratitude for what she described as the Guru’s grace in enabling her government to serve the people of Delhi.

She noted that the successful organisation of last month’s three-day Gurmat Samagam at the Red Fort lawns, marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, was also due to these blessings.

To honour the anniversary, the Delhi government, however, upgraded November 25 from a restricted holiday to a full public holiday and encouraged citizens to participate in commemorative events and pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur, whose supreme sacrifice in defence of religious freedom continues to command deep respect nationwide.
