First Woman Medical Officer, Captain Geetika Koul To Be Deployed At Siachen

As the first female Indian Army medical officer stationed at Siachen, the highest battlefield on earth, Captain Geetika Koul of the Snow Leopard Brigade has made history. Captain Koul reached this significant milestone following her completion of the demanding induction training at the esteemed Siachen Battle School.

The induction training covers a wide range of topics, including high-altitude acclimatisation, survival skills, and specialised medical procedures essential for functioning in the challenging conditions. It is regarded as a challenging test of physical and mental endurance.

“Captain Geetika Koul from the Snow Leopard Brigade becomes the first Woman Medical officer of the Indian Army to be deployed at the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen after successfully completing the induction training at Siachen Battle School,” Fire and Fury Corps of Indian Army said in a social media post.

Siachen, a region in the northern Himalayas, is well-known for its difficult terrain and harsh climate in addition to its strategic importance. The first female medical officer, Captain Geetika Koul, has been deployed to this harsh battlefield, which is a major advancement for gender inclusion in the Indian Army.

To improve mobile communication for soldiers stationed at elevations above 15,500 feet, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) commissioned a new base transceiver station (BTS) in the Siachen glacier in October.

“Siachen Warriors in collaboration with BSNL established the first ever BSNL BTS at forward posts of the highest battlefield on 6 October to extend mobile communication for the soldiers deployed at more than 15,500 feet,” the Fire and Fury Corps stated on X.
Now, while carrying out their duties in the coldest and highest battlefield, troops will be able to stay in touch with their families from their high altitude posts.
