In a significant development following the tragic death of senior Punjab police officer Dalbir Singh Deol, who was also an Arjuna awardee, authorities have made a breakthrough in the case. The key suspect, an autorickshaw driver, has been apprehended by the police for fatally shooting Deputy Superintendent of Police Dalbir Singh Deol in Jalandhar.
The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar, reportedly argued with Officer Deol, a former weightlifter honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2000. The dispute arose when Deol requested Kumar, who is known to be a drug addict, to transport him to his village. The altercation escalated, leading to Kumar shooting Deol in the head with the officer’s service pistol, recovered from the assailant.
The lifeless body of Dalbir Singh Deol, displaying signs of injury, was discovered on a road in Basti Bawa Khel, Jalandhar, where he was stationed. Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma revealed that the incident initially appeared to be a hit-and-run case. However, upon further investigation and analysis of CCTV footage, authorities shifted their focus to Kumar as the prime suspect.
Shedding light on the motive behind the crime, Commissioner Sharma explained that the argument between the officer and the autorickshaw driver ensued when the latter refused to transport Deol to his village. The confrontation escalated, leading to Kumar forcibly taking Deol’s service pistol and using it to fatally shoot him.
