Ensure Safety Of Hindus And Minorities In Bangladesh: VHP

New Delhi, August 06, 2024: Vishva Hindu Parishad’s International President, Senior Advocate Shri Alok Kumar, addressed a press conference today. He highlighted the turmoil in Bangladesh, which is facing uncertainty, violence, and anarchy. The resignation and departure of the Hasina government have left the country in a state of crisis. Kumar affirmed that India stands with Bangladesh as a steadfast friend.

Kumar reported that recent attacks have targeted religious places, businesses, and homes of Hindus, Sikhs, and other minorities in Bangladesh. Fundamentalists have vandalized 22 houses in Panchgarh, 20 in Jhenaidah, and 22 shops in Jessore. Many districts have seen attacks on crematoriums, temples, and Gurudwaras. He noted the drastic decline in the Hindu population in Bangladesh, from 32% to less than 8%, attributing this to continuous persecution.

He emphasized that Hindu homes, shops, offices, and places of worship are unsafe in Bangladesh. The situation for oppressed minorities is deteriorating. Kumar urged the global community to take effective action to protect minorities and uphold human rights in Bangladesh.

Kumar stated that India cannot ignore this situation. Historically, India has supported oppressed communities worldwide. The VHP urges the Indian government to take all possible steps to ensure the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.

He warned of potential infiltration attempts across the 4,096-kilometre Indo-Bangladesh border. Kumar stressed the need for strict, round-the-clock border vigilance to prevent infiltration.

Kumar expressed hope for the swift re-establishment of democracy and a secular government in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of human rights and continuous economic progress in the country. India will continue to support Bangladesh in these efforts.
