Musk shutdowns Twitter offices in India
Twitter: A lot has changed in Twitter since 2022 and now the social media giant has put a full stop to speculations that said Musk might relook over the mass firing that happened last year. Twitter has now shut down two of its three offices in India that were operated from Delhi and Mumbai. However, the Bengaluru office, which primarily consists of engineers, still continues to be in operation.
This seems to be the extended version of the mass layoff that happened in late 2022 wherein 90 per cent of the company’s 200-plus Indian staff was sent home. Twitter seems to go through a series of on-and-off since Tesla chief Elon Musk has overtaken the platform as its CEO. On the very first day, the billionaire came to the office with a sink, and the actions that have been taken thereafter seem quite synonymous with the same.
This shutdown underlines Musk’s motive of slashing costs and getting the most talked about social media organization back on track. It also indicates that he may be deprioritizing the big Indian market for now.
India is not the only state where Twitter has closed its operations, the CEO has fired employees and done the same around the world. Its instability can be learned from the fact that Twitter has failed to pay rent for its San Francisco and London offices, faced lawsuits from multiple contractors over unpaid services, and auctioned off assets to raise funds to meet ends after Musk took over the company.

It seems that Twitter is facing challenges in financial terms and this indicates bankruptcy about which the billionaire has already hinted before. The future of this social media giant which has been the most important platform for socio-political discourse in India remains wrapped but it certainly seems uncertain.
