As the nation continues its multi-phased electoral process, several states witnessed a moderate voter turnout in the initial hours of polling on Monday.
In Odisha, where voting commenced in 4 Lok Sabha constituencies and 28 Assembly segments, approximately 9.23 percent of eligible voters exercised their franchise in the first two hours. The constituencies of Berhampur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi were part of this phase. This reflected a steady start to the electoral proceedings in the state.
Simultaneously, Andhra Pradesh saw a comparable turnout, with around 9.05 percent of voters casting their ballots for the 25 Lok Sabha seats and 9.21 percent for the 175-seat Assembly by 9 am.
Noteworthy personalities such as Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, alongside their families, were among the early voters, setting an example for civic participation.
A voter turnout of 6.45 percent was recorded till 9 am in Maharashtra. Polling is underway in 11 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies. Notable figures like Union Minister Raosaheb Danve, BJP leader Pankaja Munde, and actor-turned-politician Amol Kolhe are in the electoral fray, contributing to the political vibrancy of the state.
Madhya Pradesh witnessed a comparatively higher turnout, with 14.97 percent of voters exercising their franchise in the initial hours of polling for 8 parliamentary seats. Ujjain emerged as the frontrunner with 16.80 percent voting, followed closely by Dewas, Mandsaur, and others. The state is witnessing polling in constituencies such as Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone, and Khandwa in this phase.
In Bihar, 10.18 percent of over 95 lakh voters had cast their votes by 9 am. Notable percentages included:
In Jharkhand, the first phase of elections is underway in four Lok Sabha seats including Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Khunti, and Palamu. By 9 AM, voters recorded nearly 12 percent turnout. Singhbhum, an area affected by Maoists, witnessed a turnout of about 12.67 percent. Khunti, Lohardaga, and Palamu recorded turnouts of approximately 12.20 percent, 10.97 percent, and 11.47 percent respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh, 11.67 percent voter turnout was recorded by 9 AM. The voting, which began at 7 am will continue till 6 PM. 13 Lok Sabha constituencies are witnessing polling in the fourth round of the seven-phase general elections.
The elections are being closely monitored amid security concerns, especially in Maoist-affected regions. The Election Commission is ensuring strict security measures to facilitate smooth polling processes across these states. With voting scheduled to continue until late evening, further updates on voter turnout and election proceedings are anticipated throughout the day.
