Election Commission Transfers 19 Senior Police Officials In West Bengal Ahead Of Assembly Polls

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday directed the transfer of 19 senior police officials in West Bengal ahead of the forthcoming two-phase Assembly elections next month. The move aims to maintain administrative impartiality during the electoral process.

The reshuffle includes two Additional Director Generals, four Commissioners of Police, 12 Superintendents of Police, and one Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police.

Authorities appointed Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh as ADG, South Bengal, while K Jayaraman assumed charge as ADG, North Bengal.

Dr Pranab Kumar now serves as Commissioner of Asansol-Durgapur, while Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi leads the Howrah Police Commissionerate.

Amit Kumar Singh took charge of Barrackpore, and Sunil Kumar Yadav heads Chandannagar.

Several district-level postings also changed. Pushpa became SP of Barasat Police District, and Jaspreet Singh now heads Cooch Behar.

Surya Pratap Yadav took charge of Birbhum, while Rakesh Singh assumed duty in the Islampur Police District.

Kumar Sunny Raj now leads Hooghly (Rural), and Ishani Pal heads Diamond Harbour. Sachin took charge of Murshidabad, while Alaknanda Bhowal now serves Basirhat. Anupam Singh leads Malda, and Anshuman Saha heads East Midnapore.

Surinder Singh now oversees Jangipur, and Papiya Sultana leads West Midnapore. Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao became the Deputy Commissioner of Central Kolkata.

Earlier, the Commission removed the acting DGP, Peeyush Pandey; the Kolkata Police Commissioner, Supratim Sarkar; and the DG, Law and Order, Vineet Goyal. Siddh Nath Gupta, Ajay Kumar Nand, and Ajay Mukund Ranade replaced them, reinforcing administrative restructuring ahead of the polls.
