Election Commission Suspends Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar Over Model Code of Conduct Violation

On Sunday, the Election Commission of India took the decisive step of suspending Anjani Kumar, the Director General of Police in Telangana, for a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct. This breach occurred during a meeting between Kumar and Congress leader Revanth Reddy, who is actively participating in the ongoing state assembly election, as reported by undisclosed sources.

Anjani Kumar, accompanied by Sanjay Jain, the state police nodal officer, engaged with Anumula Revanth Reddy before the official announcement of election results. A video shared by the news agency ANI captured the moment when the senior police official warmly greeted Reddy with a flower bouquet.

Revanth Reddy, a prominent figure in the Congress camp and a star campaigner, directly challenged Telangana Chief Minister and BRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao. The Congress appears to be on the verge of securing a simple majority in Telangana, potentially forming its inaugural government in the southern state.

In the electoral battleground of Kamareddy, where Reddy faced off against KCR, the BRS chief found himself trailing after multiple rounds of voting. Reddy also demonstrated a lead in Kodangal, the second constituency he contested.

As the vote counting unfolded on Sunday, the Congress party was leading in an impressive 65 assembly segments. This development signaled a potential majority, surpassing the requisite 60 seats needed to establish a government. The unfolding political scenario suggests a significant shift in Telangana’s political landscape.
