‘Ek Shaam, Neeraj Ke Naam’ To Honour Gopaldas ‘Neeraj’; CMD Upendrra Rai To Attend

A cultural evening titled ‘Ek Shaam, Neeraj Ke Naam’ will take place in Mumbai on Thursday, July 23, to mark the eighth death anniversary of Padma Bhushan awardee and legendary poet-lyricist Gopaldas ‘Neeraj’.

Bharat Express News Network and the Mahakavi Gopaldas Neeraj Foundation Trust are jointly organising the event at Rang Sharda Auditorium in Bandra West.

The programme, titled ‘Karvan Geeton Ka… Neeraj’, will feature musical performances and tributes celebrating Neeraj’s literary and cinematic legacy.

Organisers have requested attendees to reach the venue by 06:45 PM.

Bharat Express Chairman, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Upendrra Rai will attend the event as its Patron, while Mrigank Prabhakar, son of Gopaldas ‘Neeraj’, is organising the programme.

Neeraj remains one of the most celebrated figures in Hindi poetry and among the finest lyricists of Hindi cinema’s golden era. His iconic songs, including Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe, Karvan Guzar Gaya, Shokhiyon Mein Ghola Jaye and Khilte Hain Gul Yahan, continue to captivate audiences across generations.

According to the organisers, CMD Upendrra Rai shared a close personal bond with Neeraj and regarded him as his mentor and inspiration.

Bharat Express has continued that association by organising the Neeraj Samman Samaroh and Kavyanjali annually in cities including Delhi and Mumbai.

Born on January 4, 1925, in Puravali village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, Neeraj died on July 19, 2018. He received both the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to education and literature. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for three consecutive years.

The organisers said Bharat Express will stream the programme live on its YouTube channel and website on July 23.
