Edappadi Palaniswami Expected To Meet PM Modi In Tiruchi For Strategic Dialogue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Tamil Nadu on the evening of 26 July following his official trip to the Maldives.

Prime Minister Modi will land at Tuticorin airport at 7:50 PM, inaugurate the upgraded airport facilities, and then travel to Tiruchi for an overnight stay.

On 27 July, PM Modi will attend the Aadi Thiruvathirai celebrations at the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Ariyalur district, an event steeped in Tamil heritage. He is expected to depart for New Delhi from Tiruchi at 2:25 PM.

During this visit, Prime Minister Modi is likely to meet AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Sources suggest that Edappadi Palaniswami will likely meet Prime Minister Modi either on the night of 26 July or the morning of 27 July in Tiruchi. If confirmed, it will be the first formal interaction between the two leaders since the AIADMK renewed its alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Although the AIADMK has not officially announced the meeting, the party has rescheduled Edappadi Palaniswami’s planned campaign events—initially slated for 26 July in Karaikudi, Tirupattur, and Sivaganga—to 29 July.

Political analysts believe the party rescheduled events to accommodate the expected meeting with the Prime Minister.

Political Significance of the Meeting

This meeting holds strategic importance, with Prime Minister Modi now taking charge of alliance discussions that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had previously handled.

PM Modi and Edappadi Palaniswami have not met since their fallout during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where both parties chose to contest separately.

Union Minister Amit Shah recently stated that the BJP would support an AIADMK-led alliance in the 2026 elections.

However, Edappadi Palaniswami later asserted that his party would secure a majority on its own, creating confusion among the cadre of both parties.

Edappadi Palaniswami plans to press Prime Minister Modi to expedite Central investigations into DMK leaders as they discuss key political and administrative issues during the proposed meeting.

If confirmed, the meeting will mark a major step in defining the alliance’s strategy moving forward.
