AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has said his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi focused on coordinating strategy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and reinforcing the existing alliance framework.
With only months remaining before the Assembly polls, political activity in the state has intensified. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has already begun seat-sharing talks with its allies.
Meanwhile, expectations are growing that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will soon initiate formal discussions with its National Democratic Alliance partners.
Palaniswami travelled to Delhi on Monday and held a nearly two-hour meeting with Shah, prompting speculation over possible political realignments in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters at the Delhi airport on Tuesday morning, he dismissed rumours of any developments beyond alliance coordination.
Palaniswami said discussions centred on working together in the Tamil Nadu elections, strengthening cooperation, and effectively managing the campaign. He clarified that the talks focused on election management, campaign coordination and strategic planning.
Addressing speculation about a potential tie-up with a new party reportedly floated by VK Sasikala, Palaniswami categorically denied that any such discussion took place.
The former Chief Minister described the AIADMK alliance as harmonious and energetic, expressing confidence that it would mount a strong challenge to the DMK in the 2026 elections. He also aimed at the DMK-Congress alliance, suggesting uncertainty within the ruling coalition and questioning whether the Congress would remain part of it.
As Tamil Nadu moves closer to a high-stakes electoral contest, the meeting between Palaniswami and Shah is, however, being viewed as a key step in consolidating opposition forces.
Alliance arithmetic and seat-sharing negotiations will likely play a decisive role in shaping the state’s political landscape in the months ahead.
