ED Summons Sandip Ghosh’s PA In RG Kar Medical College Financial Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensified its investigation into the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on Wednesday by summoning Prasun Chattopadhyay, the personal assistant (PA) of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal entangled in the controversy.

The agency has directed Chattopadhyay to appear at its Salt Lake office in Kolkata later today.

Ghosh, who is currently in judicial custody, faces allegations related to financial misconduct.

On 6 September, the ED raided multiple locations, including Chattopadhyay’s residence in Subhasgram, South 24 Parganas. During the raid, officials seized significant documents and detained Chattopadhyay for extensive questioning.

Documents recovered from Chattopadhyay’s residence indicated ownership of property that appears inconsistent with his reported income, prompting the ED to issue a fresh summons.

Investigators aim to probe the origins of the funds used for these property acquisitions.

Further investigation revealed that Chattopadhyay, officially listed as a data entry operator at Calcutta National Medical College & Hospital (CNMCH), worked as Ghosh’s personal assistant at RG Kar Medical College.

Chattopadhyay would reportedly sign in at CNMCH before traveling to RG Kar, located approximately eight kilometers away.

In addition to the ED’s investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also probing financial irregularities at RG Kar, along with a separate case involving the rape and murder of a female doctor.

The CBI’s inquiry is overseen by the court, while the ED’s investigation began following the registration of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR).
