ED Action in Delhi: Rouse Avenue Court has already delivered its verdict on irregularities in appointments related to the Delhi Waqf Board, including Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan and 10 others. Now, the ED has further arrested three accused, including Jishan Haider, Javed Imam, and Dawood Naseer, who will be presented in court on the occasion of Diwali.
According to sources, the ED arrested the three accused between 1 pm and 2 pm today. The ED has requested a 14-day custody for the three accused, stating that 14 searches have been conducted so far, and several documents have been seized. The ED also mentioned the need to confront the accused with the major person in the case. It is reported that there was disagreement among the accused in their statements.
The court was informed by the ED that one of the accused, Dawood Naseer, refused to eat. The investigating officer informed the court that food was requested from Pind Baluchi and was provided. Meanwhile, Javed Imam Siddiqui communicated with his family three to four times. One of the accused claimed that they were not given food, restricted from using the restroom, and not allowed to talk on the phone. They mentioned health issues and not having consumed any food in the last 24 hours.
After the ED’s actions, one of the lawyers representing the accused claimed that they were being harassed without cause. Dawood and Jishan’s lawyers stated that the investigation agency interrogated them for 36 hours without informing their families and that they could be interrogated under summons for up to 8 hours. The lawyers argued that keeping the accused at the ED headquarters for 36 hours was entirely illegal.
The lawyers emphasized the seriousness of the case, urging a detailed hearing, requesting all accused to be sent to judicial custody today, and to present them in court tomorrow. On the other hand, the ED clarified that the families of the accused were informed before the arrests.
The Rouse Avenue Court has sent all three accused to judicial custody. Responding to the lawyers’ requests, the court stated that they could send the accused to judicial custody and asked them to be presented in court again tomorrow. The three accused will be presented in the Rouse Avenue Court tomorrow.
