ECI Announces Third Phase of UP Lok Sabha Elections: Ten Seats to Vote on May 7

Lucknow: The Election Commission of India has released a notification for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for May 7. Navdeep Rinwa, the State Chief Electoral Officer, announced the commencement of the nomination process for these ten seats following the issuance of the notification.

The ten Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh slated for the third phase include Sambhal, Hathras (SC), Agra (SC), Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Aonla, and Bareilly.

Out of these ten seats, eight are designated for the general category, while the remaining two are reserved for Scheduled Castes. These constituencies span across 12 districts, encompassing Moradabad, Sambhal, Hathras, Aligarh, Agra, Etah, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kasganj, Badaun, and Bareilly.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the deadline for filing nominations for the ten Lok Sabha seats in the third phase is April 19, as per the Election Commission of India. Nomination papers will undergo scrutiny on April 20, and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is April 22. The third phase of voting is scheduled for May 7.

The CEO further informed that there are a total of 1.89 crore voters across these ten Lok Sabha seats in the third phase, comprising 1.01 crore males, 87.48 lakh females, and 752 individuals belonging to the third gender. A total of 12,339 polling stations and 20,415 voting booths will be set up in these constituencies.

For the general election, each candidate from the general category is required to pay Rs 25,000, while SC/ST candidates must deposit Rs 12,500. Candidates representing national/state parties need one constituency elector to propose their nomination, while registered unrecognized political parties and independent candidates require ten proposers. The maximum expenditure limit for any candidate contesting a Lok Sabha seat is Rs 95 lakh.
