Dushyant Chautala Urges Haryana Governor for Floor Test Amid Political Turmoil

Amidst political turmoil in Haryana, Dushyant Chautala, the former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP ally, has called for a floor test in the state assembly. This move follows the withdrawal of support from three independent MLAs and increasing tensions within the ruling BJP coalition.

In a letter addressed to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Chautala highlighted the precarious position of the ruling BJP alliance due to recent resignations and withdrawals of support. He urged the Governor to promptly order a floor test to ascertain the government’s majority.

The demand for a floor test comes in the wake of three Independent MLAs switching allegiance from the BJP to the Congress. During a press conference in Rohtak, MLAs Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder announced their withdrawal of support for the BJP administration. They were supported by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Leader of the Opposition, and Udai Bhan, the state Congress chief.

Chautala, representing the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), indicated his party’s willingness to support an alternative government, potentially aligning with the Congress.

Highlighting the government’s minority status, Chautala emphasized the need for a no-confidence motion. He stated that JJP would support such a motion, as conveyed to the Governor.

However, Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta mentioned that the Nayab Singh Saini-led government had previously won a trust vote on March 13. He clarified that a no-confidence vote could only be initiated six months after a trust vote, citing technicalities.

The political landscape in Haryana remains tense as parties maneuver to secure their positions amidst shifting allegiances and power struggles.
