Dr Dinesh Sharma Says Teachers Are The Foundation Of Nation Building

Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma said teachers are the cornerstone of national development, as they guide society and shape future generations. He said teachers deserve the highest respect because they transform lives and nurture talent, adding that their ideas and values remain one of society’s greatest assets.

Speaking at the 48th State Conference of the Uttar Pradesh Principals’ Council at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, Dr Sharma underlined the vital contribution of principals in improving educational standards, promoting ethical values and ensuring the all-round development of students.

Recalling his tenure as the state’s Education Minister, Dr Sharma said he had made teacher well-being one of his top priorities. He noted that satisfied teachers are better equipped to inspire students and deliver quality education. He also described principals as the most accomplished among teachers.

Dr Sharma highlighted several initiatives introduced during his term, including the regularisation of ad hoc degree college teachers, the conferment of the Professor designation on eligible faculty members, salary enhancements for Shiksha Mitras and other teachers, and streamlined recruitment through appointment letters issued directly to successful candidates.

The former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister added that seniority received due importance in principal appointments and credited the BJP government with improving school infrastructure and establishing Uttar Pradesh as a model for conducting cheating-free examinations.

Dr Sharma said individuals who remain focused on the past often struggle to move forward, while those who concentrate on the present are more likely to build a brighter future. He also urged public representatives to fulfil their responsibilities sincerely.

Assurance on Principals’ Demands

Responding to the Principals’ Council’s demand for appointing senior-most teachers as principals and introducing a balanced recruitment system based on both merit and seniority, Dr Dinesh Sharma assured the gathering that he would raise the matter with the Chief Minister and the Minister for Secondary Education.

Legislative Council members Umesh Dwivedi and Avneesh Kumar Singh, Principals’ Council State President Dr Mani Shankar Tripathi, General Secretary Shailendra Dutt Shukla, Programme Convenor Dinesh Chandra Pandey, and several other senior educationists attended the event.
