Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr Dinesh Sharma, celebrated the festival of Karva Chauth on Thursday with full traditional fervour.
Accompanied by his wife, Jayalakshmi Sharma, Dr Sharma performed the customary rituals and prayers at his ancestral residence.
The couple followed the age-old traditions associated with the festival, which symbolise love, devotion, and the enduring bond between husband and wife.
Sharing glimpses of the celebration on social media, Dr Sharma expressed gratitude for being able to uphold and participate in cultural practices that have been passed down through generations.
Taking to X, he posted, “In Indian culture and traditions, the festival of Karwa Chauth holds special significance. The wife observes a strict fast without water for her husband’s long life. After offering water to the moon, the husband gives her water to break the fast. Today, following the traditional method, on the occasion of Karwa Chauth, I had the good fortune to perform the worship and rituals along with my wife at my ancestral home.”
During Karva Chauth, an important festival in Indian culture, women observe a day-long fast, abstain even from water, and pray for the long life and well-being of their husbands.
The fast concludes at moonrise when the wife offers prayers to the moon and breaks her fast after receiving water from her husband.
Dr Sharma’s observance of the festival drew warm responses on social media, with many appreciating his commitment to preserving traditional customs.
His celebration stands as a reminder that cultural and family values continue to hold deep significance, even amidst the demands of modern public life.
