Diwali 2026: PM Modi Extends Greetings, Says He Will Celebrate Festival With Armed Forces

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, November 7, extended Diwali greetings to citizens and said he would continue his tradition of celebrating the festival with members of the armed forces.

In a social media video titled ‘Have a great Diwali!’, PM Modi wished people happiness, well-being and prosperity. Describing Diwali as a festival that illuminates the country, he said the festival of lights symbolises a collective pledge against darkness.

The Prime Minister said he celebrates Diwali with enthusiasm every year and would maintain the tradition this time by spending the occasion with defence personnel.

Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi met Vice President CP Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhawan and exchanged Diwali greetings.

The Vice President’s office shared details of the meeting on X, stating that Radhakrishnan warmly welcomed the Prime Minister.

Radhakrishnan subsequently travelled to Ayodhya to attend the 10th edition of Deepotsav 2026. During his visit, he is scheduled to offer prayers at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, attend the symbolic coronation ceremony of Prabhu Shri Ram and honour revered saints, according to an official statement.

Ayodhya’s Deepotsav celebrations will likely feature more than 30 to 33 lakh earthen lamps across 56 ghats.

Ram Ki Paidi and the banks of the Saryu River will serve as the main venues for the celebrations.

The grand illumination will mark the city’s 10th Deepotsav, ahead of Diwali on Sunday, November 8, highlighting Ayodhya’s religious and cultural significance during the festival.
