Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 78th Independence Day on Thursday with a grand flag-hoisting ceremony at the historic Red Fort in Delhi.
This year’s celebrations saw a notable attendance of approximately 6,000 specially invited guests, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.
The gathering included a vibrant mix of individuals from various sectors of society.
Among the attendees were youth, students, tribal members, farmers, women, Border Road Organisation workers, Indian Olympic athletes, nurses, and Anganwadi workers.
The diverse representation underscored the theme of this year’s Independence Day, ‘Developed India @ 2047’.
The ceremony saw around 2,000 people dressed in traditional attire from different states and Union Territories, adding a colorful and cultural dimension to the event.
Special guests also included elected women representatives, sarpanches, and individuals dressed in traditional outfits, showcasing India’s rich cultural diversity.
Highlighting the emphasis on public involvement, the Central Government however extended invitations to a broad spectrum of society.
This included tribal artisans and entrepreneurs supported by the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), and Anganwadi workers.
Additionally, attendees featured beneficiaries of various government initiatives such as Sankalp, Mahila Empowerment Centre, Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, Sakhi Kendra Yojana, Child Welfare Committee, and District Child Protection Units.
The event also welcomed Indian Olympic athletes from the recent Paris Olympics, one representative from each block of the Aspiring Block Programme, Border Roads Organisation workers, and students from the Prerana School Programme.
In a bid to encourage widespread participation, 3,000 winners of online competitions organized by the Defence Ministry in collaboration with MyGov and All India Radio were also present.
