Dinesh Sharma Appointed Andaman And Nicobar LG; Thanks President Murmu, PM Modi And Amit Shah

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Dinesh Sharma has thanked President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and the BJP’s central leadership after receiving the responsibility of becoming Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced the appointment on Saturday and stated that Dr Sharma would formally begin his tenure from the day he assumes office.

Following the announcement, Dr Sharma expressed his gratitude through a post on X and acknowledged the support he had received from senior leaders, well-wishers, friends and citizens.

Dr Sharma said the assignment carries a much deeper significance than simply holding a constitutional office. He described it as an obligation towards the Constitution, the nation and public service.

The Rajya Sabha MP assured citizens that he would perform his responsibilities with honesty, dedication and devotion while seeking their continued support and blessings.

Political Career

The Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha member has held several significant positions during his political career.

Between 2017 and 2022, Dr Sharma served as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in the Yogi Adityanath-led government. During that period, he handled portfolios covering higher education, technical education, science and technology, and information technology.

Born in Lucknow on January 12, 1964, Dr Sharma has spent decades associated with education. He has served as a commerce professor at the University of Lucknow since the early 1990s and has supervised numerous research scholars.

Dr Sharma’s public career began through student organisations before he advanced within the BJP’s youth wing and later assumed important organisational roles.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands hold strategic importance in the Bay of Bengal, with the Lieutenant Governor overseeing administration, development and coordination with the Centre.

Admiral (Retd) Devendra Kumar Joshi has occupied the post since October 2017.

Dr Sharma’s appointment will bring a fresh leadership phase to the Union Territory, with the BJP leader expected to assume charge soon.
